As an intermountain basin of 18 square kilometers and the gateway of the Mount Huangshan scenic area, Tanjiaqiao town is closely linked to the East Sea scenic area and is designated as the east tourist service base of the Mount Huangshan scenic area. 

The international town comprises three districts, of which the district on the south side closely adjoins the Shimen Canyon at the disembarking stop of the cableway moved eastward, where at least 4 square kilometers of land is construction land of superior quality, thereby becoming the key area for the construction of the international town. Well-located for transportation ( where two expressways, two airports, and two high-speed train stations are within reach, Wuhu-Huangshan expressway will be built soon and Wuhan-Wenzhou high-speed railway will be constructed in the 13th Five-Year Plan period ), the district has a wealth of advantages, such as resources of higher grade（Mount Huangshan scenic area in the back, Huizhou culture, educated youth culture, red culture, Hsuan-yuen culture and tea culture, etc. ）and adequate space for development（district on the south side is still a land of crisscross footpaths between fields like a piece of white paper awaiting the most beautiful paintings to draw on）.

Construction of the Mount Huangshan International Town is an important starting point for Anhui Province and the city of Huangshan to create the Grand Mount Huangshan National Park, the international tourist culture demonstration area and the tourism-based new economic engine.
