Standards & Codes

  • As a leading enterprise in Chinas urban rail transit industry, we consistently adhere to a design-led and standards-first approach. We place a strong emphasis on the formulation and management of standards and codes, maintaining a steadfast commitment to a sound standardization consciousness.
  • As of the end of June 2023, we have successfully completed the formulation of 242 standards. Among them, we have compiled 23 national and industry standards as the chief editor, and 60 national and industry standards as the participant. We are a major contributor to the development of standards and codes in the field of urban rail transit in China.
  • ◆ Urban Rail Transit Engineering Survey
  • In the field of urban rail transit engineering survey, we have taken the lead in editing several crucial national standards and codes, including Code for Monitoring Measurement of Urban Rail Transit Engineering (GB 50911-2013), Code for Geotechnical Investigation of Urban Rail Transit (GB 50307-2012), and Code for Urban Rail Transit Engineering Survey (GB/T 50308-2017).
  • Among them, the Code for Monitoring Measurement of Urban Rail Transit Engineering is a crucial guideline for the monitoring of metro engineering in China. It plays a significant role in ensuring the safety of urban rail transit projects and protecting the property and lives of the general public to the maximum extent. This standard, for the first time, proposes the necessity of monitoring during the operational phase of urban rail transit and clearly defines the content and technical requirements for monitoring work. The code was honored with the third prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award in 2016.
  • ◆ Urban Rail Transit Engineering Design
  • In the field of urban rail transit engineering design, we have taken the lead in editing several crucial national standards and codes, including Code for Design of Metro (GB 50157-2013), Standard for Design of Light Rail Transit (GB/T 51263-2017), Standard for Design of Shield Tunnel Engineering (GB/T 51438-2021), Standard for Seismic Design of Underground Structures (GB/T 51336-2018), and the industry standard Standard for Metro Gauges (CJJ/T 96-2018).
  • Notably, the Code for Design of Metro (GB 50157-2013) marked the first design code in the field of urban rail transit in China. It serves as a technical foundation for domestic metro construction, plays a crucial role in guiding the design process of urban rail transit, and is referred to as the Supreme Code for Chinas urban rail transit construction. It laid the foundation for the development of Chinas urban rail transit standard system and played a key role in constructing various standard systems for rail transit. The first edition of this code, led by Mr. Shi Zhongheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was published in 1992. Over the subsequent 30 years, we conducted three revisions based on the analysis and summary of the latest technological achievements and construction experiences globally. These revisions made significant contributions to continually improving the technical level of urban rail transit engineering, promoting the sustainable development of Chinas urban rail transit construction. The 2003 edition, revised under the leadership of Mr. Shi Zhongheng, was honored with the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004.
  • The English version of the Standard for Design of Light Rail Transit represents the first English standard in the rail transit industry in China. It filled the gap in domestic light rail standards. This standard, led by Mr. Yu Songwei, a national engineering survey and design master and released in 2017, has guided the application and promotion of new technologies, materials, and equipment in the domestic light rail field, providing reliable support in safety, quality, energy conservation, and environmental protection. It has played a significant role in controlling project costs and operating expenses, effectively expanding the development strategy for urban rail transit in China. This standard has been extensively applied in overseas projects such as Vietnams Light Rail Line 1 and Kazakhstans Light Rail, marking a crucial milestone in the internationalization of Chinas standard system. It was honored with the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the China Association of Metros in 2021.
  • ◆ Urban Rail Transit Engineering Construction
  • In the field of urban rail transit engineering construction, we have taken the lead in editing several important standards, including the national standard Standard for Construction of Metro Engineering (GB/T51310-2018) and the industry standard Standard for the Construction of Urban Rail Transit Engineering Projects (JB104-2008).
  • Notably, the national standard Standard for the Construction of Rapid Rail Transit Engineering Projects, edited by us under the commission of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, establishes construction standards for project classification, scale, composition, overall layout, vehicle selection, operational organization, building structures, vehicle depots, system equipment, safety protection, and technical and economic indicators of the urban rail transit engineering in China, providing a unified set of criteria for project compilation and review and offering significant guidance. This standard, led by expert Shen Jingyan, was first published in 1999 and revised in 2008 based on the accumulated experience from a decade of standard implementation. Upholding a people-centric approach and principles of safety, economy, and environmental protection, the revision reinforced the networked concept of rail transit operations, enriched the content of the Code for Design of Metro, and enhanced operability. It received widespread acclaim within the industry, winning the first prize of the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award in 2009 and the third prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011.
  • ◆ Civil Construction
  • In the field of civil construction, we have taken the lead in editing several important standards, including the national standard Test Standard for Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient of Building Envelope and Heat Supply for Space Heating (GB/T 23483-2009). Additionally, we have contributed to standards such as Technical Standard for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (GB/T 51350-2019) and Standard for Model Selection of Assembled Residence (JGJ/T494-2022).
  • Furthermore, standards and codes such as the Standard for Construction of Metro Engineering, Code for Design of Urban Underground Road Engineering, and Code for Design of Modern Tram Engineering, all edited by UCD, have successively received 25 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels or higher.
