The Academician and Expert Studio of Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group was established on October 16, 2009. Its purpose is to give full scope to the role of academicians and experts in the aspects of technology innovation and talent cultivation, actively promote technology innovation of the group company, explore R&D models of new products and incubation methods of new technologies, boost the combination of industry, education and research and the engineering application of research findings through joint project R&D, which complements each other’s advantage, and play an important role in building core competence of the group company and participating in the ever-increasing domestic and foreign competition.

The basic tasks of the studio is to raise R&D capacity of the general institute, lead and promote technology innovation and development of the industry and become a key R&D incubator of the group company by relying on the intelligence support of academicians and experts and through major research projects inside and outside the group; research key and difficult technical issues in the field, tackle key technical problems of the company and the industry, and provide powerful support for industrialized development of the company; promote talent development strategy under the general planning framework of talent cultivation of the company and cultivate technical backbones and young and middle-aged technical experts for the company; and be responsible for the work of the expert committee, computer and simulation center and postdoctoral workstation of the general institute of the group company. 

The Academician and Expert Studio is headed by Academician Shi Zhongheng and engages renowned experts as research advisors of the studio. The studio has full-time and part-time researchers and invites post doctorates to carry out R&D work in the studio. It has undertaken multiple scientific research tasks of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, including “new-type urban rail transit technology” of National Key Technology R&D Program in “11th Five-Year Plan” period. At present, it is undertaking “research and demonstration of key technologies for urban underground space planning and underground structural design” in the “12th Five-Year Plan” period under the Ministry of Science and Technology, “R&D of embedded ground type contact rail system and product integration” under Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, and the industrialization projects of the institute, including prefabricated assembly-type metro underground station structure and industrialization” and “research on integrated technology for vibration damping slab track and its industrial application”. 

By relying on strong technical advantage represented by academicians and famous experts, the studio also undertakes the internal and external engineering consulting projects of the company and directly creates social and economic benefits for projects.

The studio also has established a long-term project cooperation mechanism and talent cultivation mechanism with Beijing Jiaotong University, Tongji University, OVE ARUP & Partners Hong Kong Limited, CECI Engineering Consultants, Inc., Taiwan and other famous domestic and foreign universities and consulting companies.

Shi Zhongheng

An academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, now he is the Director of the Committee of Experts, China Association of Metros, Director of the Committee of Experts, Beijing Rail Transit Command Center, Director of the Committee of Experts, Chonging Rail Transit Command Center, Director of Urban Rail Transit Research Center, Director, Professor and Doctoral Advisor of Academic Board of State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, Chief Editor of Urban Rapid Rail Transit, Advisor of the Committee of Experts, China International Engineering Consulting Corporation, Expert Advisor of the Ministry of Construction, Expert Advisor of Beijing Municipal People’s Government, Metro Expert Advisor of Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou and some other cities and Honorary Professor and Doctoral Advisor of Southwest Jiaotong University.

He as a chief editor compiled and revised China’s first national metro design standard “Code for Design of Metro and won the second prize for progress in science and technology from the Ministry of Construction. He as a chief editor also compiled China’s first “Metro Design and Construction” monograph and China’s first magazine about urban rail transit “Metro and LRT” (the current name is Urban Rapid Rail Transit). He has played an important role in guiding the development of Chinese metro industry.

 


 

 

Huang Wei

An academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, now he is a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the Executive Vice Chairman of the autonomous region. He used to be an associate professor and professor of the Department of Communication & Transportation, Southeast University, Dean of the School of Communication & Transportation, Southeast University, and Vice President, Executive Vice President and Party Secretary of Southeast University. He was a senior visiting scholar of University of California – Berkeley from May 1993 to February 1994 and a distinguished visiting professor under “Changjiang Scholars Program” in January 2000. He ever was Director-General and Leading Party Group Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Construction, Vice Governor of Jiangsu, a member of the leading party group of the provincial government, Vice Minister and Leading Party Group Member of the Ministry of Construction, Vice Minister and Leading Party Group Member of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, an alternate member of the 10th Party Committee of Jiangsu Province, a deputy of the 10th People’s Congress of Jiangsu Province and Beijing Vice Mayor. He was elected as an academician of CAE in December 2007.

He won a provincial first prize for excellent teaching result, a national second prize for excellent teaching result, a third prize of the Ministry of Transport for progress in science and technology, and 5 second prizes, 5 third prizes and 1 fourth prize for progress in science and technology at a provincial level, enjoys special government allowance, was included in the Trans-Century Talent Training Program of the State Education Commission, was selected as a young or middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution to the country and won a national first prize for progress in science and technology in 2001 and a first prize of the Ministry of Transport for progress in science and technology in 2002.

  


 

Jiao Tongshan
      Professor-level senior engineer, former deputy general manager of China International Engineering Consulting Corporation, Vice Chairman of China Communication and Transportation Association and Honorary Director of Urban Rail Transport Professional Committee.

 


  

Shen Jingyan
      Advisory President of Beijing Urban Engineering Design & Research Institute, expert of the Committee of Experts, China International Engineering Consulting Corporation, and Deputy Chief of the Expert Group for Transport Industry; member of the Academic Board of China National Association of Engineering Consultants; expert of the Committee of Rail Transit Experts, Ministry of Construction; advisor and chief engineer of the Metro and LRT Research Center, Ministry of Construction; rail transit expert and advisor of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Xi’an, Chongqing, Kunming, Guiyang, Lanzhou and some other cities; part-time professor of Beijing Jiaotong University and Tongjin University. He has always been engaged in the planning, design and research of metro and LRT and ever held the positions of technician, engineer, senior engineer, professor-level senior engineer, director of the Metro and LRT Research Institute, and vice president. He is a receiver of special government allowances of the State Council. He ever independently acted as a chief design officer of rail transit engineering projects in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing and other major cities and was responsible for the planning and scientific research projects in many cities.

  


 

 

Quan Yongshen
      Former Director of Beijing Transportation Research Center, a doctoral advisor of Beijing University of Technology, a council member of Chinese Society for Urban Studies, a council member of Urban Planning Society of China, a specially invited member of the Commission of Science and Technology, Ministry of Construction, an executive member of Transport System Engineering Society of China and a deputy director member of China Academic Committee for Urban Traffic Planning; a young or middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution to the country, and a receiver of special allowances of the State Council.     

He has been working on the front line of urban traffic planning and construction for a long time, and presided over and guided the demonstration of traffic planning and major engineering projects of more than 20 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Nanjing. He won a national second prize for progress in science and technology, 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes of Beijing for progress in science and technology, and 2 state-level and provincial-level awards for excellent research findings. He has important influence in international academic activities.

 


 

 

Zhang Mi
      A famous rail transit expert, a professor and doctoral advisor of Beijing Jiaotong University, Leader of the Civil Work Group, the Committee of Experts, Beijing Rail Transit Command Center, and an expert of the committees of urban rail transit experts in Nanjing, Chongqing, Suzhou, Kunming and some other cities; an advisor of the Committee of Experts at Urban Rail Transit Engineering Safety and Quality, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and a member of Chongqing and Kunming committees of rail transit experts; Deputy Chief Editor of Urban Rapid Rail Transit magazine and an advisor of the Editorial Board of Tunnel Construction magazine. 

He ever undertook the scientific research work under Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Ministry of Railways. “Composite lining of railway tunnel” won a national third prize for progress in science and technology; “highway and railway flyover design theory and software” won a third prize for excellent software issued by the Ministry of Construction; “metro construction by cover-excavation method” won a second prize of Beijing for progress in science and technology; “urban construction disturbance and control” won a first prize for progress in science and technology issued by the Ministry of Education. He has published many academic papers and works and cultivated numerous rail transit talents for the industry.

 


 

Shen Zijun
      He is Advisory Chief Engineer and professor-level senior engineer of Beijing Urban Engineering Design & Research Institute, and a receiver of special government allowances. He has been engaged in urban rail transit engineering design, research and consultation for 46 years and participated in the prefeasibility study, feasibility study, preliminary design, construction design review and evaluation of metro and LRT in more than 10 cities, and the general contracting and single-item design bid and bid evaluation of multiple metro lines. He is the Executive Deputy Chief Editor of “Urban Rapid Rail Transit” magazine. He participated in strategic research on national mid/long-term development plan of science and technology (2006-2010), was the editor and deputy chief editor of large series book “China Civil Engineering Guide”, “Metro Design and Construction” and so on, wrote many papers, was a main researcher of multiple patents and won the title of advisor with outstanding contribution to Olympic engineering survey and design.

 


 


      Cui Zhijie
      He is a professor-level senior engineer, science and technology expert with outstanding contribution in Beijing, an advisor of the Committee of Experts, Urban Rail Transit Engineering Safety and Quality, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and a receiver of “special government allowance” of the State Council. He is mainly engaged in the design and research of subway and underground engineering, participated in review of metro planning, design, construction schemes, risk assessment, specific design, and rescue and handling of engineering accidents, applied for two patents including “building a large underground space (PBA construction method for short)” and “building straight wall underground works by subsurface method” and successfully applied them in metro station construction. These two methods have become mainstream methods for metro station construction by subsurface excavation method. He has won the prize of Beijing for progress in science and technology nine times and the title of Beijing Labor Model.

 


 

  


      Yang Guangwu
      He is a doctor, professor-level senior engineer and doctoral advisor, and Chief Engineer of the General Office of Beijing Major Project Construction Command Center. He is mainly engaged in rail transit planning, design, construction and maintenance, road bridge design, construction and maintenance, and formulation of technical standards and management measures. He has published 11 papers in important domestic and foreign publications, created 4 invention patents, published 7 monographs (translator or author) and undertaken 9 projects, including a state-level project and 7 ministerial (provincial) level projects.

 


 


       Liu Zhigang

Professor, doctoral advisor, incumbent Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University, a member of the Academic Board of the School of Electrical Engineering, and a member of Teaching Guidance Committee.

The main research fields are power electronic technology, microcomputer real-time control, industrial automation, and computer network control. He has completed the research and popularization of “rail on-line welding repair equipment and process”, “research on internal EMC of high-speed motor vehicles”, “high-frequency inverter welding machine exclusively for rail welding repair”, “development of AC drive inverter technology” and some other projects. He presided over “research on EMC of large homemade wind power generators” under National 863 Program and national defense project “research on physical real-time simulation technology for propulsion subsystem of marine integrated electric propulsion system”. In the recent years, he has published more than 10 papers and works in core publications.
 


 

 
      Zhang Dingli
      He is a professor and doctoral advisor of Beijing Jiaotong University, President of the School of Civil Engineering, the chief scientist of “Research on Basic Theory of Urban Underground Engineering Safety” project under National 973 Program, the leader of “research on core technology for construction of large cross-sea tunnels by drilling and blasting method” project under National 863 Program, Director of Tunnel and Underground Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education, the leading scientist of “tunnel and underground engineering safety control” innovation team of the Ministry of Education. He takes full charge of Key Laboratory of Urban Underground Engineering, Ministry of Education and has been engaged in the research on tunnel and underground engineering design theory and construction techniques and the cultivation of high-caliber talents for a long time.

In the recent years, he is mainly engaged in the research and teaching of tunnel and underground engineering. He has achieved innovative research findings in tunnel defects, tunnel grouting technique, undersea tunnels, safety risk control, tunnel surrounding rock deformation mechanism, support and surrounding rock “dynamic action” system, surrounding rock stability evaluation system and control method and formed systematic theoretical knowledge and core technology system. His research findings have been applied in mines, transport, water conservancy, municipal engineering and military engineering in China. The related content won 8 provincial or ministerial-level first prizes and 4 second prizes for progress in science and technology. He published more than 100 papers collected by SCI and EI, 4 monographs and 4 textbooks. He won 6 provincial/ministerial-level first prize for progress in science and technology and 3 second prizes and was granted 4 national invention patents. 2 patent applications have been accepted.
