Changchun Rail Transit Line 7 Phase 1 Project Goes into Operation

On August 26, Changchun Rail Transit Line 7 Phase 1 Project, undertaken by UCD as the general contracting entity for survey and design, commenced operations, which assists Changchun in enhancing its rail network and injecting new vigor into urban development. As a player with the largest market share and the most comprehensive capabilities in China’s urban rail transit design sector, UCD has undertaken the overall design tasks of 211 lines across 41 Chinese cities, and its total operating mileage ranks first in the country.  

Running from the northeast to the southwest, the 23.2-kilometer Phase 1 project of Line 7 includes 19 stations, serving as a rail transit supplementary line in Changchun. It starts from Auto Park Station in the west, runs along Dongfeng Avenue, Nanhu Avenue, and Donghuancheng Road, and ends at Donghuancheng Road Station in the east. Drawing inspiration from Changchun’s industrial DNA, UCD’s design team centered the project on the theme “Industrial Spring City - an Era of Momentum”. Guided by the timeline of industrial advancement, the line becomes a dynamic corridor of industrial culture by being separated into three different sections: the west evokes the early factory era, the middle highlights modern scientific research and innovation, and the east envisions a forward-looking future.

In terms of station cultural design, the team tapped into local historical assets, forming a landscape of “one station, one scene”. The Xing’an Road Station, with its deconstructed auto-parts installations, serves as a striking nod to the FAW Logistics legacy. The Jidasiyuan Station pays homage to Russian-style red-brick buildings, while its visual displays vividly showcase FAW’s transition history. The Auto Park Station incorporates the arcade form of Hongqi Innovation Tower as an homage to FAW NBD headquarters. The Feiyue Square Station is decorated with a wheel-hub-and-headlight dome, embodying homegrown brand culture. The above designs fully demonstrate UCD’s strong competence in enriching the cultural dimension of urban rail transit.

To boost the construction of smart urban rail transit, UCD has equipped Line 7 with intelligent ticket processors, which incorporate voice-activated interfaces and facial-recognition functionality for a seamless access experience. Additionally, a smart signaling O&M system has been assembled for real-time equipment monitoring, delivering robust digital support for operational security.

Following the opening of Line 7, Changchun now has a total operational mileage of 174.6 kilometers. At present, UCD is playing the role of survey and design general contractor for four additional Changchun rail lines under construction. It will continue to harness its core technical capabilities to help build a smarter, more efficient public transportation network for the city.
