UCD, Winner of Two Prizes of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award

Recently, the winners of the 2024 Beijing Science and Technology Award was officially announced. Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co., Limited, a subsidiary of UCD, was honored to win the second prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award, because it took the lead in accomplishing the project “Key Technologies and Applications for Constructing a Digital Base Platform for Urban Transportation Planning”. Additionally, UCD was also granted the same prize owing to its contribution to the project “Key Technologies and Applications for Acquiring Operational Safety Status and Enabling Collaborative Emergency Management in Megacity Rail Transit Networks”.

In terms of the first project “Key Technologies and Applications for Constructing a Digital Base Platform for Urban Transportation Planning”, to address long-standing challenges such as the shortage of domestically developed specialized software and insufficient applications in big data in China's urban transportation planning sector, our team members took nearly a decade to achieve significant breakthroughs. They conducted theoretical innovation, technological development, and engineering practice to overcome key technical barriers, including population data fusion analysis at the "individual building" scale, mobile trajectory calibration and travel demand chain reconstruction, and the construction of a foundational platform for spatial data asset management. Eventually, a series of proprietary digital software for urban transportation planning has been developed, with the overall technology reaching internationally advanced standards.

It has yielded extraordinary achievements, including 23 authorized invention patents, 24 software copyrights, 46 high-level published papers (10 of which are SCI-indexed), 4 monographs, and 7 standard specifications. At present, they have accomplished practical applications in scale by being implemented in transportation planning and design initiatives across more than 100 cities nationwide, greatly enhancing digital capabilities in design and consulting. Also, they are widely used in technical review and decision-making processes of transportation planning, TOD assessment, existing railway line upgrades, and traffic impact evaluations, which not only lift the efficiency and scientificity of planning formulation and management, but also strongly support the digital transformation and high-quality development of urban transportation planning in China.

According to the major needs of national industries, the second project “Key Technologies and Applications for Acquiring Operational Safety Status and Enabling Collaborative Emergency Management in Megacity Rail Transit Networks” places emphasis on key issues in safety monitoring and collaborative emergency management of megacity rail transit networks, and has made breakthroughs in a series of key technologies, covering multi-modal fusion-based comprehensive acquisition of high-precision safety status in critical network spaces, state prediction-enabled analysis of mass passenger flow safety conditions and quantitative evaluation of security services, efficient emergency response coordination driven by complex event-passenger flow scenarios, and large-scale network emergency command platform integration based on big data and cloud computing, thereby building a globally advanced technological framework and equipment structure for operational safety status and collaborative emergency management in megacity rail transit systems.

Its achievements have been applied in the daily risk monitoring, emergency command operations, and major event support at the Beijing Rail Transit Command Center for a long time, and have been widely adopted across over 30 Chinese cities(including Guangzhou and Shenzhen) and global markets. The successful implementation provides solid support for China's leading role in the world and fostering self-reliance in this critical technological field, thereby boosting technological progress in the urban rail transit sector and spurring the improvement and upgrade of Beijing’s industrial landscape.
