Beijing Holds the Fourth Cross-Strait Hong Kong and Macao Urban Construction and Sustainable Development Science and Technology Forum 

 

On July 24, the Fourth Cross-Strait Hong Kong and Macao Urban Construction and Sustainable Development Science and Technology Forum was convened in Beijing. It is a forum jointly sponsored by the China Civil Engineering Society, the Macau Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Sino-Geotechnics Research and Development Foundation (Taiwan, China), and co-organized by UCD and Hefei Institute for Public Safety Research, Tsinghua University.

 

 

The forum takes "Low-Carbon Development, Cities Begin the Future" as the theme, and prioritizes key issues and technology difficulties in the course of the green transformation of urban construction across cross-strait  Hong Kong and Macao. Academic exchange and experience sharing can serve as approaches to pool strength and build consensus, contributing to high-quality urban development.

Attendees for the opening ceremony included Li Zhe (Deputy Director-General of the Finance Planning and Foreign Affairs Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development), Shang Chunming (Vice Chairman of China Civil Engineering Society), Wu Chou Kit (President of the Macau Institution of Engineers), Ir Alice Chow Kin-tak (HKIE President), Tai-Tien Wang ( Chairman of Sino-Geotechnics Research and Development Foundation (Taiwan, China)), Xia Xiujiang (Secretary-General of the Rail Transit Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, Party Secretary and General Manager of UCD) and Zhang Bin (Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Department of CAST). Among them, the first six members delivered speeches.

Xia Xiujiang stated that the above forum was established four years ago. As the supporting institution of the Rail Transit Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, UCD pays continuous attention to industry technological advancement and takes the initiative to build academic exchange platforms. Taking the forum as an opportunity, UCD will positively promote the establishment of a mutual recognition mechanism for CSE to enhance exchange and cooperation with urban construction professionals in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and effectively facilitate the sharing and integration of technological innovation achievements across the strait.

During the forum, Fan Weicheng and Chen Xiangsheng (Academicians of China Academy of Engineering), Chen Kaiqi (Member of CEDD), Hu Yue (Chief Architect of Beijing Institute of Architectural Design), Chen Xiaohu (CEO and Chief Engineer of TYLin International China) and Mr. Cao (Coordinator of Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Ltd.) made reports, respectively.

Keynote speakers included the following 8 experts. They are Li Jiulin  (Chief Engineer of UCG), Xu Chengyong (Chief Planner of UCD), Sun Minggang (Technical Director of the Rail Transit Research Institute of UCD),  Wang Jiaming (Head of Transit Railway of MTR), Zhang Dengke ( General Manager of Beijing Lize Urban Terminal Investment and Development Co., Ltd.), Chen Jianguo(Researcher of the School of Safety Science, Tsinghua University), You Zhongrong (Manager of Moh And Associates, Inc.), and Ye Jiarong (Engineering Manager of China Construction Engineering (Macau) Company Limited).

During the youth roundtable forum, Wang Kaijian (President of the Eighth Branch of UCD), Tang Mingming (Deputy General Manager of Beijing Agiletech Engineering Consultant Co., Ltd.), and Xu Ning (Director of the First Comprehensive Design Institute of the Urban Planning Institute) made exchanges with Lei Wa Chio (Executive Director of the Macau Institute of Engineers), Dr. Gao Wenjun (HKU Faculty of Architecture), and Hong Chenwei (Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Ltd.) on issues such as green rail transit across the Taiwan Strait, urban renewal, and green building technology.

During the forum, UCD held discussions with HKIE and got involved in deep exchanges on advancing the mutual recognition mechanism for engineers as well as expanding business cooperation in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Participants also include Xia Xiujiang (Party Secretary and General Manager of UCD), Xu Chengyong (Chief Planner of UCD), Wang Chen (Deputy General Manager of UCD), Zhang Wei (Secretary of the Institute of Technology) and Pang Xianyu (Head of the Tenth Branch of UCD).

More than 160 cross-strait representatives, including Fan Weicheng and Chen Xiangsheng (Academicians of China Academy of Engineering), Yu Songwei, Shi Haiou and Hu Yue (National Engineering Investigation and Design Masters), attended the forum. On July 25, attendees were organized to visit the Beijing Daxing International Airport Express.
