UCD Wins First Prize of 2023 Beijing Scientific and Technological Progress Award

 

In recent days, the science and technology conference and the science and technology awards conference were held in Beijing, at which UCD’s project of “theory, standards and engineering application of integrated subsurface structure and soil mass aseismic design” won first prize of 2023 Beijing Scientific and Technological Progress Award.

 

To tackle major problems needing urgent resolution in terms of subsurface structure aseismic design in cities of China, the project team composed of personnel from the Tsinghua University, Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co., Limited (UCD) and China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) set up a project team in the form of industry-university-research-application cooperation. The team did systematic and in-depth research into the theory, standards and engineering application of integrated subsurface structure and soil mass aseismic design from the perspectives of basic theory, computing method and standard system, breaking through the limitation of traditional elastic and quasi-static design theory and setting forth such basic theories as incoherent seismic dynamic input in elastoplastic media, the cyclic anisotropic soil constitutive of the whole liquefaction process described, arbitrary lateral displacement earthquake earth pressure and the seismic response to subsurface structure—soil—adjacent structure system considering spatiotemporal deepening of motion and inertia interaction; establishing such methods as dynamic simulation of ultra-large and high performance fluid-structure coupling subsurface structure, simplified seismic analysis covering different subsurface structure characteristics and formulation conditions, site discrimination considering the weight loss effect of subsurface structure itself and the earthquake buoyancy calculation and having developed analysis software; establishing the control index system for seismic design of subsurface structure, setting forth seismic design methods and technical measures applicable to different types of subsurface structure systems, and formulating the system design standard with Standard for Seismic Design of Subsurface Structures, first national standard of China, as the core.

The research findings have reached the international leading levels on the whole and have been brought into series of national, industrial and local standards to be widely applied to the comprehensive transportation hubs of Beijing Municipal Administrative Center Station and to major engineering facilities aseismic design for urban rail transit projects across the country, bringing about remarkable social, economic and environmental benefits.
