2024 China Urban Rail Transit Key Technology Forum Ceremoniously Held in Wuxi

From Nov. 7th through 8th, guided by China Civil Engineering Society and sponsored by the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society and the Wuxi Metro Group Co., Ltd., the 2024 China Urban Rail Transit Key Technology Forum and the 32nd Metro Academic Exchange Conference undertaken by UCD were ceremoniously held in Wuxi. More than 500 people, including 4 academicians, 6 national masters of engineering survey and design, and personnel from related governments, rail transit design, construction and operation units attended the grand meeting.

Xia Xiujiang, secretary-general of the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society, Party chief and general manager of UCD, attended the meeting and presided over the opening ceremony and keynote speeches.

With “Integration of Green and Intelligence for Sustainable Development” as the theme and centering on the green development, digital intelligence and technological innovation against the backdrop of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, in-depth research and exchange were made, cutting-edge consultation and research findings were shared at the grand meeting to facilitate pragmatic cooperation, injecting new impetus for promoting sustainable and high-quality rail transit development.

As the earliest, the most authoritative and the most influential urban rail transit technology exchange platform in China, China Urban Rail Transit Key Technology Forum and the Metro Academic Exchange Conference were initiated in 1979 by the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society，and the forum and conference have been so far successfully held for 32 times, an important force in facilitating the rail transit development in China.

At the opening ceremony, Yi Jun, member of the CPPCC Standing Committee, deputy director of the CPPCC’s population, resources and environment committee, and president of China Civil Engineering Society, and Zhang Lijun, vice-mayor of Wuxi, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Shang Chunming, vice president of China Civil Engineering Society and Zhang Jun, chairman of board of directors of Wuxi Metro Group Co., Ltd., attended the meeting.

Yi Jun pointed out that it has been explicitly said in this year’s Government Work Report that major efforts should be devoted to advancing the construction of the modern industrial system, to accelerating the development of the new quality productivity，to actively boosting digital industrialization and industrial digitization and to promoting the in-depth integration of the digital technology and the real economy, which has defined the direction for the development of the urban rail transit industry. He said that currently China’s rail transit is in the golden age of high-quality development and in the period of strategic opportunity and that China Civil Engineering Society will as always support the development of the industry and will advance hand in hand with all walks of life and make cooperations to the fullest extent to write a new chapter for the development of the rail transit industry with concerted effort.

Zhang Lijun said that in the light of the Outline of the Plan for Regional Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta Area Wuxi has pushed forward the development of the rail transit industry, taken the lead in carrying out the rail transit green and intelligent integration in China, launched the demonstration projects of urban rail transit multivariant integration, explored the Wuxi model for the sustainable development of medium-sized rail transit cities, developed a number of green construction technologies, and created a number of intelligent scene applications, forming fruitful results of green and intelligent integration with Wuxi characteristics. He said that a warm welcome is extended to the broad masses of elites to make investment, start business and make innovations in Wuxi to jointly map out a brand-new blueprint for Wuxi.

A total of 19 attendees, including academicians, national masters of engineering survey and design and senior specialists in the rail transit industry, shared research findings from their respective research fields, injecting new wisdom and providing valuable references for the development of the industry.

At the keynote presentation session, 4 academicians made keynote speeches respectively. Chen Xiangsheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a keynote speech on the technology for the construction of double-hole close sticking pipe jacking machine of subway underground station; Deng Wenzhong, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, shared his successful experience in the field of urban rail bridge design; Du Xiuli, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, made in-depth analysis of the new challenges facing the infrastructure construction, operation and maintenance; He Chuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the latest achievements in the present situation and development of intelligent tunnel construction. Zhang Jun, chairman of the board of directors of Wuxi Metro Group Co., Ltd., shared his views on the application and development of green and intelligent technologies in the urban rail transit field.

When delivering speeches, Yu Songwei, Ma Haizhi, Zhu Ying, Shi Haiou, Huang Xiaojia and Zhu Zhongyi, who are national masters of engineering survey and design, made in-depth discussion and exchange respectively on topics, such as ESE theory and method, engineering monitoring automation, multi-level rail transit network three-dimensional planning, urban rail transit underground station structure design innovation, key technology of fire water supply system, research on vibration control design of theater structure along the track pertaining to the evaluation of urban rail transit sustainable development.

At the expert report session, a total of 9 senior experts, including Liang Zhiheng, deputy general manager of Wuxi Metro Construction Co., Ltd., Shi Zhenghong, board chairperson of Shanghai Metro Line 15 Development Co., Ltd., and Liu Chuntao, deputy Party chief and general manager of CRRC ITET Co., Ltd., made experience exchange respectively.

During the meeting, the attendees also visited Wuxi metro projects to learn on site about the urban rail transit construction and operation in Wuxi.
