Phase I of Rail Transit Line No.10 Open to Traffic in Xi’an

On Sep.26, the first phase of Rail Transit Line No. 10 designed by UCD was open to traffic in Xi’an. As the vanguard project for the city’s strategy to cross northward, Line No.10 is an express line connecting the main urban area and Weibei region, being of great significance to optimizing overall urban spatial layout, promoting integrated regional development and facilitating industrial upgrading along the line.

Starting from the Jingshangcun Station in the south to the Zhaohui Square in Gaoling District in the north, the Line No.10 stretches a total length of 34.4 kilometers with 17 stations set up, of which 7 are underground stations and 10 are elevated stations. Transfer can be made at Xi’an Polytechnic University·Wudelu Station to Metro Line 14. The opening of Line 10 has increased the metro network mileage of Xi’an to 353 kilometers with 211 stations going into operation, of which 21 are transfer stations.

The design inspiration came from the marvelous spectacle of “Waters of the Jinghe and the Weihe Distinct from Each Other” along Line 10. In line with the tender Jinghe River and the Weihe River and the firm and persistent regional industrial development, the first phase of Line 10 presents a tough yet tender spatial atmosphere, reflecting distinct urban and natural characteristics and symbolizing integrated and coordinated regional development. The standard station of the first phase of Line 10 visualizes the “distinction and integration” of Jinghe River and Weihe River, with the four flying ribbons representing the four regions connected by the rail transit line and staying in line with the passenger flow line in the form of a streamlined fold.

As a featured station, Hongqi Factory Station embodies the “Tech-drive”design theme characterized by the engine and starry sky to present an architectural space of science, technology, delight and romance. Likewise, the Shuiliu Station, another featured station, integrates the water flow light and shadow at the sunset into the design, drawing the dynamic curve element and changing colors of the sunset to integrate and showing the perfect combination of modern building and natural aesthetics.

The first highway and railway bridge of 7.5 kilometers has been built in northwest China along the rail transit line. The upper layer of the bridge is the six-lane urban express road and the lower layer is two-track subway with sidewalks, non-motorized vehicle lanes and urban sideroad to cross the river, being the longest and heaviest integrated transportation project with the biggest span and the longest jacking length among bridges of similar kind in China.
