First Phase of Rail Transit Line 12 Open to Traffic

On the morning of Dec. 20, the initial operation of the first phase of UCD-designed Zhengzhou Rail Transit Line 12 was started. Up to now, UCD has undertaken the design of five rail transit lines in Zhengzhou on the whole, of which 88 kilometers have been completed and opened, thus making contributions to the construction of Zhengzhou's new modern rail transit with excellent quality, diversified industries and sustainable development to better satisfy the needs of the townspeople for nice travels.

As the encrypted line of the subway network of Zhengzhou and mainly situated at the economic development area and Zhengdong New District, the first phase of the Rail Transit Line 12 runs L-shaped in south-north and east-west direction and provides transfers to a number of lines. With the total length coming to 16.538 kilometers, the first phase of the Rail Transit Line 12 starts at the Lianghu Station in the economic area and ends at Longzihu East Station in Zhengdong New District, with its 11 stations all underground.

With “Green City of Scientific Innovation • City of Motions” as the theme for design, the rail transit line highlights the feeling of science and technology and, through the combination of virtuality and realness and the changing of rhythm, the spatial levels are enriched to forge a modern and magnificent subway space to manifest the humanistic charm. For example, the image symbol of“circuit board” has been adopted to use the criss-cross lines as the spatial design elements;the “hole of the Chinese parasol” has been forged for the Children’s Hospital, with the concept of Man and Nature coexisting harmoniously being highlighted at the door spacing;mortise and tenon joint structure of Chinese ancient buildings has been highlighted for the spatial structure of Dongfeng East Road Station, with traditional elements and modern materials combined ingeniously;the featured culture wall of Heavenly-Made Jun Porcelain has been set up in the hall of the Huanghe South Road Station, with the design concept coming from the Jun porcelain, top one of the five famous porcelains in Song Dynasty, and the traditional Jun porcelain relief in the middle of the picture gives prominence to the theme of Jun porcelain culture.

As the intelligent subway demonstration line, the first phase of the Rail Transit Line 12 presents four intelligent directions of intelligent service, intelligent train operation, intelligent stations, intelligent operation and maintenance to bring still more new scientific and technological experiences to passengers, thus further enriching the scenes of intelligent travel for the townspeople. Focusing on the intelligent service of“self-help being the dominant factor while manual work being the supplement”, all stations are equipped with self-help customer service centers and self-help ticket processing machines to realize the unmanned ticket processing functions. The stations can realize such functions as one-button switch station and three-dimensional visualization to effectively improve the service efficiency of the stations. The train adopts the highest international level of fully automatic driving technology to achieve such functions as the fully automatic operation of main lines, automatic sleep and wake-up and automatic fault diagnosis. More than 10 core subway operation systems, such as the communication system, subway trains and the signal system, apply intelligent technologies to reduce the amount of manual inspection, making equipment operation and maintenance more efficient, more accurate and more economical.

As the leader in urban rail transit design in China, the UCD project team has given full play to its leading advantages in the industry to serve the urban construction and development of Zhengzhou. At present, the number of subway lines in operation in Zhengzhou has reached a total of ten, with the mileage completed and opened coming to 277.7 kilometers.
