2nd Science and Technology Forum on Urban Construction and Sustainable Development of Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Held

 

On Dec. 14, under the guidance of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of the China Association for Science and Technology, the 2nd Science and Technology Forum on Urban Construction and Sustainable Development of Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao was held simultaneously in Beijing and Macao. With the theme of “Transport and City”, the forum focused on the scientific and technological challenges cropping up in the process of urban construction and coordinated transportation development of the two sides of the Straits and Hong Kong and Macao to explore solutions, practice the strategy of building a strong transport country, pool intelligence and seek common development.

 

 

Forums in Beijing and Macao


The forum was jointly sponsored by the China Civil Engineering Society, the Macao Institutionion of Engineers, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and the Sino-Geotechnics Research and Development Foundation (Taiwan, China), and was jointly hosted by Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co., Limited (UCD) and the Institute for Public Safety Research of Tsinghua University.
Yu Songwei, vice chairman of the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society, national engineering survey and design master, deputy general manager of UCD, and Xia Xiujiang, vice chairman and secretary-general of the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society and deputy general manager of UCD, presided over the forum in Beijing and Macao respectively.

 

 

Forum in Beijing


Li Zhe, deputy director of the Department of Planning, Finance and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Shang Chunming, vice chairman of China Civil Engineering Society, Wang Hanjun, chairman of the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society and general manager of UCD, Fan Weicheng, president and academician of the Institute for Public Safety Research of Tsinghua University, Hu Zujie, member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region and president of the Macao Institution of Engineers, Lee Chi-kang, president of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Wang Taidian, chairman of the Sino-Geotechnics Research and Development Foundation (Taiwan, China), attended the forum and delivered speeches. Liu Hui, director of the policy division of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., and Wang Baohui, director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Department of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of the China Association for Science and Technology, attended the forum.

 

 

Wang Hanjun, chairman of the rail transit branch of China Civil Engineering Society and general manager of UCD, said in his speech that transportation plays a vital role in cities and is the vein of national economic development and the link of civilization. He said that the forum, at which experts and scholars from across the Straits and from Hong Kong and Macao conducted a high-level dialogue on transport and cities, was highly innovative, forward-looking and leading, and is of great significance to building beautiful cities and benefiting the people. He expected the forum would achieve fruitful results. At the same time, he added, UCD is willing to work with people of insight from all walks of life to make traffic more open and the cities better in the capacity of explorer, participant and beneficiary of transportation and urban development.
At the scientific forum, Fan Weicheng, expert member of the National Disaster Reduction Committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Xiangsheng, member of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Stratigraphic Freezing and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as experts and scholars such as Lai Jianrong, president of the Macao Institution of Engineers, Zhang Zizhong, general manager of the civil engineering department of China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited and Lai Jianming, CEO of the Sino-Geotechnics Research and Development Foundation (Taiwan, China), made reports and exchanges focusing such topics as the research on key scientific issues of scientific and technological innovation enabling urban safety, the resilience of deep underground space in megacities, the application of intelligent and digital engineering technology, building design and construction oriented towards urban sustainable development, digital twins and the application of AI technology to smart rapid transit design.

 


Forum in Beijing


At the engineering forum, Liu Jianfeng, general manager of Beijing Urban Construction Transport Planning & Design Institute Co., Limited, Lin Ruihai, chief executive officer of Macau Zhixing Research & Analysis Co., LTD., Li Mingqiao, honorary treasurer of the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling, Zhang Mukui, deputy chief engineer of the structure department of MAA, He Xiong, general manager of Yunnan Jingjian Rail Transit Investment & Construction Co., Ltd., made exchanges and discussions on such themes as urban transport big data research, exploring Macao's future transportation planning and development from regional and multi-dimensional perspectives, the past, present and future of the development of Hong Kong's building information modelling industry, the challenges of urban rail transit development – taking Line 3 of the New Taipei City as an example, and the digital operation of Kunming Metro Line 4 based on the cloud platform.

Forum in Macao


At the youth roundtable forum, Li Huachao, executive director of the Macao Institution of Engineers, held a dialogue with young engineers from the mainland and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on the theme of transportation and city, and exchanged views on hot issues and new technologies such as urban planning and transportation construction in Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao and Taipei.



Forum in Macao


The forum has set up a platform of in-depth exchange and common development for scientific and technological workers in the field of urban construction from across the Straits and Hong Kong and Macao, and has effectively promoted academic exchange, think tank consultation and exchange among youths in the scientific and technological sectors across the Straits and in Hong Kong and Macao, sharing innovation achievements. The deep interaction between the scientific and technological innovation entities from across the Straits and from Hong Kong and Macao has further enhanced openness and trust, provided exchanges and references for the construction and development of cities in different parts of the country, and achieved remarkable results in helping Hong Kong and Macao better integrate into the overall situation of China’s national development and in facilitating the interoperability and integration of the science and technology circles across the Taiwan Straits.
More than 300 representatives from management departments, enterprises, institutes of higher learning, professional organizations and scientific research institutions across the country and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan attended the forum. On the morning of Dec. 15, Macao participants also visited the Macao light rail project and conducted on-site exchanges around the construction, operation and maintenance of traffic engineering.
