Two Members from UCD Selected as “Shield Engineering Craftsmen”

Recently, Beijing Shield Engineering Association released the List of the Second “Shield Engineering Craftsmen”. Gui Yixiong from Beijing Urban Rail Transit Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. under UCD and Li Shimin, Deputy Chief Engineer of Beijing Urban Construction Exploration & Surveying Design Research Institute under UCD, were successfully listed and crowed as the honorary title of “Shield Engineering Craftsmen” after strict assessment and evaluation. A total of 50 “Shield Engineering Craftsmen” were evaluated and selected in this session.

The activity of “Shield Engineering Craftsmen” is jointly organized by Beijing Shield Engineering Association and China Workers Publishing House every two years. The number of candidates in each session is generally no more than 50. The candidates are mainly individuals holding front-line technical and skill posts who have made major contributions from member units of Beijing Shield Engineering Association and relevant units in the shield engineering industry. This activity aims to implement China’s underground space development and transportation power strategy, vigorously carry forward the spirit of craftsmen in the shield engineering industry, and further promote the continuous development and innovation of shield engineering technology in China.

Gui Yixiong, Shield Engineering Craftsmen: born in 1971, rated as a senior engineer, now the Chief Mechanic of the Shield Management Center of Beijing Urban Rail Transit Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. For nearly 30 years, he has been engaged in mechanized construction technology of underground engineering. Since the shield test section project of Beijing Subway Line 5, he has participated in the construction of many subway projects in Beijing, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and other cities, and applied his professional technologies to support the safe tunneling of subway tunnels.

With profound academic and technical literacy, Gui Yixiong has been employed as a Geotechnical Engineering Expert of Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Beijing Shield Engineering Association and Guangzhou Metro Shield Research Institute, and a Subway Construction Expert of Hohhot, Shijiazhuang and other cities. He published 8 technical papers, obtained 9 patent authorizations, participated in the compilation of 4 volumes of Rail Transit Technology Series, and participated in review of 1 local standard and preparation of 2 group standards. His honors and awards include 1 Beijing Award for Progress in Science and Technology, 1 Beijing construction method, 3 Awards for Progress in Science and Technology offered by China Association of Construction Enterprise Management and China Construction Industry Association, and 6 Awards for Progress in Science and Technology offered by Beijing Urban Construction Group.

Li Shimin, Shield Engineering Craftsmen: born in 1980, now the Deputy Chief Engineer of Beijing Urban Construction Exploration & Surveying Design Research Institute. Over the past 17 years, he has successively presided over and completed the survey and monitoring projects of tunnel shield projects for more than 10 urban rail transit lines in China, such as Beijing, Nanjing and Shijiazhuang. He won 1 National High-Quality Project Award and 16 national, provincial and ministerial industry awards, obtained 3 patented technologies and published 6 academic papers.

Li Shimin participated in the research of several special projects of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. He also participated in the compilation of Survey Manual for Urban Rail Transit Engineering and the Anti-Floating Research and Application of Shijiazhuang Metro Engineering Structure as editor-in-chief, and the compilation of many monographs such as Urban Rail Transit Engineering Geology in China, Common Quality Problems and Countermeasures of Urban Rail Transit Engineering Survey, Urban Rail Transit Engineering Monitoring Technology and Management Guide as co-editor. He has made outstanding contributions to improving the urban rail transit engineering survey and promoting the continuous progress of subway engineering survey in China, and has extensive influence in the industry.
