Two UCD-designed Subways Opened to Traffic in Hangzhou to Give an Impetus to the Asian Games 

Recently, on the occasion of the 200-day countdown of the 19th Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, the east section of the first phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 3 and the second phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 4 designed by UCD, have been successfully opened to traffic. As an integral important part of the supporting infrastructure construction for "welcoming the Asian Games", the two projects, upon their completion and opening to traffic, will provide efficient and convenient passenger flow services for Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and help Hangzhou to show its international image to the world.

First phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 3

The project consists of a main line and a branch line, with a total length of 52 kilometers The first section of the project is the backbone line of Hangzhou subway network, with a length of 21.3 kilometers. UCD undertook the general contracting for the design of the first phase, as well as the task for the design of 11 stations, 9 sections, traffic signals, tracks, comprehensive monitoring, etc. The line runs underground through several residential areas, high-speed rail and subway lines and expressways. The opening of the line will strengthen the connection between the west and northeast of Hangzhou city and the main city center, and ease the traffic congestion in the urban area.

Second phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 4

Hangzhou Metro Line 4 consists of Phase I and Phase II projects, with the total length of Phase II being 24.2 kilometers. UCD undertook the general contracting for the design as well as design of 5 stations and 5 sections, Gouzhuang depot and all other systems. It was the first time to adopt rectangular shield tunnel in Hangzhou to cross the existing three operating tunnels for the second phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 4, to use shield tunnel to pass through existing stations in soft soil area and to have passed through underneath the railways for 11 times. After the opening of the second phase of Line 4, the whole line has become a semi-circular traffic axis running through the main urban area of Hangzhou, with transfer provided for 7 subway lines.

Since the start of the first phase of Hangzhou Metro Line 3 and second phase of Line 4, the project team has taken "providing for the Asian Games" as its mission, overcome difficulties, made meticulous designs and provided thoughtful services, and completed the tasks on time and with good quality. The opening of the project will vigorously promote the development of planned new towns along the lines in Hangzhou and the capacity of the city, and help with the more forceful and smooth development of core urban areas. At present, the total mileage of Hangzhou subways has exceeded 400 kilometers, of which the mileage designed by UCD with general contracting has come to 135 kilometers, accounting for one third of the total operating mileage, making positive contributions to serving the development of the rail construction in Hangzhou.
