UCD-designed Moscow Subway Goes into Operation

At the local time on Dec. 7th, the 3rd transfer loop line (southwest section) of the Moscow subway designed by UCD was officially open to traffic. Russian President Putin attended the opening ceremony via video link, claiming that the opening of the new loop line marks the new milestone of the subways in Moscow!

With a total length of 70 kilometers, the 3rd subway transfer loop line of Moscow is the longest of its kind in the world. The southwest section of the 3rd transfer loop line designed by UCD stretches 5.4 kilometers, comprising 3 stations and 4 sections along Amini, Michurin streets and Werner Street. It is the first time that Russia has introduced the Chinese design enterprise for subway construction.

Early in 1950s, subway became a testimony of friendship between China and Russia. In 1956, China invited Soviet experts to guide and plan the first subway line —— Beijing Subway Line 1 for the people’s republic. At that time, the predecessor of UCD was the designer of the Beijing Subway Line 1. More than 60 years later, UCD came to Moscow to design for its subway projects, pushing ahead the China-Russia friendship generation by generation with “China Design Program”.

When designing, UCD brought in China’s advanced design concepts and realized the in-depth integration of technology and culture, bringing about the style of blending China’s traditional architectural art and culture into the decoration of the Michurin Street Station, with such Chinese elements as red columns, rounded symbol for longevity and auspicious clouds making a stage pose at the “underground art palace” in Moscow and becoming a “new landmark of China-Russia friendship”.

UCD’s ingenious design has been recognized by the highest design management institution in Russia and won wide acclaim among Chinese and Russian media, assuming a cross-culture grand view on the “Belt and Road”.
