Cheng Yan’s Funeral Ceremony Was Held

Cheng Yan, Deputy General Manager of UCD, passed away due to illness on the afternoon of June 27th, 2021, at the age of 47. Cheng Yan’s funeral ceremony and the farewell ceremony were held in the East Auditorium of Babaoshan Funeral Home on the morning of June 29th.

Flowers and tears expressed their grief and sadness for the departed. At 7:30 in the morning, elegiac couplets were hung on the scene in a solemn atmosphere. Above the entrance of the mourning hall, a banner with white words on a black background reading “To Mourn for Cheng Yan” was hung, with elegiac scrolls on both sides saying “owing to her hard work like Jingwei, the great blueprint of UCD was depicted”. The mourning hall was filled with wreaths presented by Cheng Yan’s relatives, related units, leaders and colleagues. In the misty and drizzly weather, more than 500 colleagues, relatives and friends came to express their condolences spontaneously. They stood silently with sadness on the faces. Everyone mourned for Cheng Yan with deep grief.

The funeral ceremony was presided over by Mi Jianzhou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Labor Union of UCD, and Wang Hanjun, General Manager of UCD, delivered a eulogy.

They felt overwhelming sadness and regret about Cheng Yan’s untimely elapsed talents. In his eulogy, Wang Hanjun highly praised Cheng Yan’s erudition and talent. Throughout her life, Cheng Yan forged ahead with determination and passion, dedicating her talents and wisdom to the state and the enterprise. She deserves to be called the backbone of the society and the enterprise. With her whole life revolving around the country, Cheng Yan devoted her best to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for six years, and made outstanding contributions to the construction and operation of the Beijing Olympic stadium.

In his eulogy, Wang Hanjun also reviewed Cheng Yan’s innovation in the process of academic exploration and development of new business for UCD. She pursued supreme beauty and truth in her life. With a high sense of responsibility to the society and deep affection for UCD, she always followed the highest standards. With exquisite skills and high attainments in architectural design, she is a rare industry trailblazer. With the fortitude to face difficulties and the belief in overcoming hardships, she led various businesses to flourish, such as UCD’s development of technology industrialization business and establishment of a new cultural and creative sector.

In his eulogy, Wang Hanjun said that Cheng Yan kept working with versatile talents, and wrote many excellent works for the world. Her literary works in a natural and flowing style perfectly embody the artistry of architecture and an aptitude for composing verses. Cheng Yan selflessly contributed her life-long knowledge and ingenuity to the state, society and enterprise, which deserves to be learned by all of us. Cheng Yan is a truth seeker, a fighter and a pioneer with no regrets about her career, homeland and life!

After the funeral ceremony, the participants tearfully bid farewell to Cheng Yan’s body and expressed their condolences to her family members.
