The main structure of Shougang Station in the west section project of Beijing Subway Line 11 was completed ahead of schedule

On the morning of November 27, at the construction site of Shougang Station next to the west extension line of Chang'an Avenue, concrete was continuously pressed by the pump trucks onto the last section of checked and accepted roof. It indicates that the main structure of Shougang Station was completed three days ahead of schedule, and it was the first station whose main structure was completed in the west section project of Line 11.

The west section project of Subway Line 11 is a supporting project for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, with a total length of about 4.2km and 4 stations. After completion, it is expected to meet the demand for passenger flows during and after Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and greatly enhance the transportation capacity of the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games and Shougang Park.

Shougang Station, under the construction by UCD, is in three-story and three-span structure. It is the last station of the west section project of Line 11 and the closest one to the ski jumping platform of Olympic Winter Games. It is about 337m long, 23.8m wide at the standard section and 14m wide at the island platform. The station has four entrances and two sets of ventilation pavilions.

In June 2019, the project team entered the site. Facing the constraints such as complex environment and tight schedules, the project took specific measures such as on-site tracking, urgent treatment for urgent issues, on-site office, and countdown schedule etc. to overcome weather influences such as heavy wind warning, smog and dust. As a result, many preliminary preparations were completed, such as temporary project equipment construction, temporary water supply and electricity access, and pipeline relocation. On December 8, 2019, the project officially started pile foundation construction.

During the busy period of the project, the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 brought unprecedented difficulties to the construction. In order to make up for the delayed time due to the epidemic, the project team took the initiative and adapted to the local conditions. They made breakthroughs in process conversion and plan optimization: Firstly, they strengthened the coordination among various professional subcontractors on site, and assigned the workers in two shifts to ensure the site was under construction day and night; secondly, they increased investment of machines. During the peak period of construction, four tower cranes and eight truck cranes were in service at the same time; thirdly, they optimized the construction plan. For example, the upper enclosure structure of Shougang Station followed the construction plan of three anchor cables + three soil nails. After sufficient discussion of the technical department and approval of the design unit, they optimized three time-consuming anchor cables into one and used soil nails to replace rest ones, which saved about 15 days for the construction schedule; fourthly, they organized labor competition timely. The project launched a labor competition of “100 days of hard work, ensuring the node construction schedule; developing potential and improving efficiency” in September with a strict reward and punishment system, which greatly aroused the enthusiasm of the construction teams and soon formed the active atmosphere of “competing, learning, rushing, helping and surpassing".

Shougang Station completed the structure three days ahead of schedule, and at the same time, the construction of Shougang-terminal section is also proceeding in an orderly manner. In the next step, the project team will maintain the positive attitude to work hard, develop potential and improve efficiency, fulfill the contracts in a high-quality manner, complete the node goals on schedule, and contribute “the power of UCD” to the success of the Olympic Winter Games.
