Expressway in Zunyi Wins “Grand Slam” of Gold Award of China’s Construction Engineering Steel Structure

Recently, the first batch of projects for the 14th Gold Award of China’s Construction Engineering Steel Structure (2019) have been made public. The FengXin Expressway, a PPP project（Section One, Section Two）funded and constructed by UCD in the city of Zunyi, has charted success. To date, three sections of the project have all won the Gold Award of China’s Construction Engineering Steel Structure, thus realizing the “Grand Slam”.

Gold Award of China’s Construction Engineering Steel Structure, an honor approved by the State Council and one of the national quality engineering awards few in number in the architectural field, is the supreme quality management award for steel structure. The gold award going to all three sections of the project assumed by UCD manifests the unremitting efforts contributed by UCD in pursuing the spirit of workmanship as well as the traits of the company that are really up to the mark.

Completed and opened to traffic on May 9, 2019, the FengXin Expressway starts from the foot of the Phoenix Mountain in the west of Zunyi and ends at Li Yi New Town in the east. As one of the important links of urban infrastructure construction in Zunyi, the FengXin Expressway has become an important thoroughfare for the city, being of great significance to the rapid development of the Xin Pu New Area and to the alleviation of the traffic congestion in central urban area.

Featured by a municipal steel structure bridge, the project combines science, wisdom, technology, environmental protection and landscape into one. With the main part made of steel truss and steel box girders, the whole bridge shows itself in a total of more than 60000 tons of steel, being the most sizable municipal bridge of steel truss currently at home. Conceptually creative and environmentally-friendly, the truss space of the bridge has been fully used for sidewalk and landscape lighting, achieving the economy of urban space. With the road functions reasonably arranged, pedestrians and vehicles do not bother each other. As a result, the expressway can be rated as a “knockout” for the central urban area of Zunyi.

By now, the project has won 5 state-level awards, including Gold Award of China’s Construction Engineering Steel Structure, National Excellent Welding Project Award, etc., as well as more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards, including Great Wall Cup gold award for municipal infrastructure of Beijing, “Yellow Fruit Tree Cup” of Guizhou Province, awards for new technology demonstration and application projects in construction industry of Guizhou Province, etc. The project has also won 6 patents for utility models, such as multifunction automatic telescopic device monitor, etc.
