Playoff Successfully Held at the Competition Area in South China for 2nd China Urban Rail Transit Scientific and Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition!
On Aug. 13, playoff for the 2nd China Urban Rail Transit Scientific and Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition South China was ceremoniously held at Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd.
The playoff was jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University, Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd., Guangzhou Metro Group Co. Ltd., Urban Rail Transit System Safety and Operation Security National Engineering Laboratory, as well as UCD. Long Yucai, director of Technology Center of Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd., Han Yishun, executive vice president of Data Science Institute of Tsinghua University and executive president of AI Big Data Committee of Tsinghua Alumni Association, Feng Anjun, deputy chief engineer of UCD, Mao Yufeng, deputy chief engineer of Guangzhou Metro Design Institute Co., Ltd., Zong Chuanling, director of City and Industrial Planning Research Institute of Shenzhen National Hi-Tech Industry Innovation Center, Hu Mingwei, professor of School of Civil and Traffic Engineering of Shenzhen University, were invited to attend the playoff and to act as honored guests and judges.
Long Yucai, director of Technology Center of Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd., Feng Anjun, deputy chief engineer of UCD, Xia Guangzhi, deputy director of Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University, addressed the playoff on the spot as representatives of the sponsors.
Long Yucai introduced the leapfrog development of Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd. in recent years. He stressed the opportunities accorded by infrastructure construction at Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for the rail transit construction in neighboring cities. In recent years, Shenzhen Metro Group Co. Ltd. has based itself on national strategies, constructed rapid traffic networks with concerted efforts in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Long Yucai said taking actual needs of the proprietors as the starting point, the competition has earnestly facilitated the application of scientific and technological innovation achievements to actual conditions, and the competition will give an impetus to the connection of infrastructure facilities within the greater bay area and will form an infrastructure system suited to the regional economic and social development. He winded up conveying congratulations in advance to the success of the competition.

Feng Anjun, UCD’s deputy chief engineer, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the leaders and experts giving backing for the competition. He said that projects qualified for the playoff are of great significance to further promoting the integration and quality development of the innovation resources, to further improving the ability of entrepreneurship to bring along employment, to increasing the vitality in scientific and technological innovation and industrial development, and to enhancing the endogenous power for economic development. In the end, he conveyed his congratulations in advance to the complete success of the competition and wished all competitors to put up good shows and to have good scores.

Director Xia Guangzhi expounded the reflections on current design in an overall way by taking design of oil pipes as an example, and shared his reflections on similarities and differences in design of subways and high-speed trains. Director Xia said that Graduate School of Tsinghua University was about to set up a new institute—Future Urban Design and Planning Institute. The institute will go in for integrated researches in terms of urban design, management and maintenance and will contribute to the development of urban rail transit development. In the end, Director Xia expressed congratulations in advance on the complete success of the competition.
On the spot of the playoff, representatives of proprietor units, university and college professors, experts, 13 competition teams and investors gathered together, spoke about the new prospects for innovation and entrepreneurship in the rail transit industry, and witnessed the excellent presentations among the competitors. Innovation and entrepreneurship projects in terms of communication, power supply, gate, water supply and drainage, project waterproofing, ventilation, air-conditioning and heat supply were showcased one after another, presenting rich contents and innovative ideas and reflecting the tendency of green and intelligent urban rail transit development.
The competition projects consists of fundamental research, popularization and application, and the proprietor proposition. Through fierce competition for 5 hours, one fundamental research project, one popularization and application project and one proprietor proposition project won prizes, which will be presented for the national final on behalf of the south-China competition area. Below is the list of prize winners.
The 2nd China Urban Rail Transit Scientific and Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition kicked off in April, 2019. There are four competition areas altogether, respectively in North China, East China, South China and West China. Winners of the playoff from the competition area in South China will have the chance to take part in the 2019 China Forum on Urban Rail Transit Key Technology & the 28th Metro Academic Seminar to be sponsored by China Civil Engineering Society in Beijing on August 29, 2019. By then, winner teams from all competition areas, associations, local governments and youth experts will be invited to take part.
