A Forum Held Among Old Army Chiefs to Celebrate “Army’s Day”
The “August First” Forum held once a year was held among old army chiefs on July 30. Old army chiefs such as Zhao Jin’an and Zhang Yangjie, and former Party secretary of the design institute Bai Xianhua and the former institute director Wang Xinjie, celebrated the Army’s Day in advance with some demobilized servicemen in the company of BJUCD’s Party secretary Li Guoqing and vice secretary Mi Jianzhou.
BJUCD was formerly known as Beijing Metro Design Department. In 1965, the construction of Subway Line 1 started, when Cultural Revolution took place and the construction work came to a standstill in the turmoil. For this reason, the central government ordered to adopt and reorganize Beijing Metro Design Department as a military unit with the designation being 507, and all over five hundred staff members were dressed in army uniforms. With the military protection, designers put all their hearts into the work and fulfilled the design of Subway Line 1 successfully and perfectly.
Since then, BJUCD’s designers were dressed in army uniforms all the time until 1983 when all of them were demobilized. As the vanguards of the reform in China, they established the first enterprise architecture design institute in China.
After the establishment of the enterprise institute, inviting retired old chiefs back to BJUCD to celebrate the Army’s Day and to carry forward the military cultures has been reserved as a special program for the inheritance of BJUCD’s design cultures. By 2018, BJUCD’s Party committee has carried on this tradition for 35 years.
The advertising video “Step Up Efforts in 2017”was firstly played on the forum. Party secretary Li Guoqing introduced BJUCD’s course of development in a year to the retired leaders, and the latter expressed congratulations on BJUCD’s achievements. All of them felt proud of BJUCD’s present developments and said they would take good care of themselves so as to be able to win more time to advance with the enterprise and to hail and applaud for the enterprise.
