UCD helps Moscow usher in a new stage in metro construction
The construction of the third circle line of Moscow metro system entered a new historical stage as the first shield tunneling machine was fitted into the shaft well of the southwest section of the project in May 2018. It is the first time in the Russian history, including the Sovietera, that the country has an overseas enterprise partaking in its metro line design and construction.
Marat Shakirzyanovich Khusnullin, deputy mayor of Moscow, has given high comments on the project after a series of on-site surveys. Andrei Bochkarev, head of Moscow’s construction department, said the cooperation in the project has offered the Russian party a good opportunity to learn more about Chinese people’s expertise in metro construction. He stressed, “The project first means introduction of new techniques and good practices, which can help improve our ability in metro construction. What’s more, the cooperation has increased the competition across the industry in the country.”
The southwest line is the first overseas rail transit project that UCD undertakes in accordance with local design codes and standards. It indicates the company’s advancement in internationalized management of overseas projects as well as increasing capability to meet the demands of overseas design markets.
The 62.3-kilometer line with 28 stations is scheduled to come into operation in2020. Based on the contract, the Chinese party shall complete the preliminary design and construction of three stations and the tunnels between them from 2017 to 2019. This has definitely won China a higher reputation worldwide in terms of metro construction.
