Airport Line of the Wuhan Rail Traffic Puts into Operation

The Tianhe Airport Station Strikes an Amazing Pose like “Phoenix Dancing up in the Highest of Heavens”

On Dec.28, the line of rail track at Wuhan’s Tianhe Airport was open to traffic. Constructed and decorated by UCD, the airport line, an extended part of Line 2, gives prominence to the design philosophy for Line 2 featured by the buzzword of “Onboard the Train to Feel the Culture of Wuhan”. With the line in plum red for the most part, the color is aimed at displaying features of the nature and humanity of neighboring areas along all stations. There are 7 stations along the line, decorated in simple and lavish style. The Tianhe Airport Station and the Dragon Road Station, two major stations, give prominence to the features of regional culture to endeavor to foster the image of the rail traffic as window of the city to the outside world.

Unlike the usual architectural space of metro stations, a hollowed-out design features the floors between platforms and halls at the Tianhe Airport Station and, in line with the looks of the high structure columns, crystal white marble is used for the columns to make them look like European-style marble pillars. The walls are made of light grey high-strength cement fiber slabs for the very first time to be in harmony with the space of the station and to let people feel cozy with the softness of the texture of the walls. The arc-shaped top surface is made to look gentle and mild, giving a visual hierarchy of change. The center of the top surface is made orderly with triangle wiredrawing steel mesh in the shape of aircraft wings, a match to the main structure symbolizing “Phoenix Dancing Up in the Highest of Heavens”.

Ingenious application of artistic factors, sound, light and electric power at the Tianhe Airport Station makes the station full of artistic atmosphere. The edifice reflects the charm and movement of the loop curves, simple yet rich and colorful, symbolizing the “Phoenix” of Wuhan flying from the Tianhe Airport to make its dream come true.
