Integration of Metro and City for a Green and Livable City

– International Seminar on Subway and Urban Space Integration Construction Held in Beijing

On July 8, the “Integration of Metro and City for a Green and Livable City– International Seminar on Subway and Urban Space Integration Construction” was held in Beijing. This seminar was sponsored by Engineering Consulting Professional Committee of China Association of Metros, Urban Rail Traffic Technical Work Committee of China Civil Engineering Society, Green Rail Transit Group of China Green Building Council, and undertaken by Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co.,Ltd. More than 120 persons from rail transit investment, construction and design units of more than 20 domestic and overseas cities attended this meeting. Wang Hanjun, director-general of Urban Rail Traffic Technical Work Committee of China Civil Engineering Society, Song Minhua, vice-president and secretary-general of China Association of Metros, Li Jiangang, vice secretary-general of China Civil Engineering Society, Li Congxiao, secretary-general of China Green Building Council, and Zhou Nansen, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning attended and delivered a speech at the meeting.

At the meeting, the Company’s deputy chief engineer Liu Jing introduced the new mode for harmonious and integrated development of metro and city from four aspects: vehicle base development, MRT-city integration, new habitable urban space, and green elevated rail transit station. Zhao Penglin, deputy commander in chief of Shenzhen Rail Transit Headquarters, taking Shenzhen Luohu Hub and Qianhai Hub as examples, elaborated the relationship between urban railway and city, and pointed out that, in the construction of comprehensive traffic hubs, each department shall coordinate closely, and promote integrated planning, design, construction and operation management of hubs jointly. Lu Qingyao, vice chairman of Hong Kong RONALTD LU & PARTNERS, and Lu Zhongxiao, executive director and chief architect of Nikken Sekkei Ltd. introduced the 10 principles for development oriented at high-strength public transportation and the design strategy of Japanese TOD large urban complexes respectively from international perspective. Tan Pengjing, assistant to general manager of Land Development Business Department of Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co.,Ltd., introduced the active exploration for and practical experiences in the integration of resources and the integrated development of metro stations along the rail transit of Beijing; relevant principles of Beijing Future Science Park Management Committee and the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University introduced the green ecology construction and integrated development ode of Beijing Future Science Park and Wuxi High-Speed Railway Hub respectively. President Xia Haishan of the School of Architecture and Design of Beijing Jiaotong University introduced the method for coordinated design of rail transit and urban space based on data driving from the perspective of scientific design.

In interaction section, attendees and keynote speakers made sufficient communication and exchange on the topics including reducing the vibration and noisy, implementing disaster monitoring, insisting on ownership initiation, promoting seamless linkage, and carrying on property regurgitation-feeding, etc. in integrated development.

The following consensus was reached at the meeting: To construct metros is to construct cities, and intensive construction of urban spaces oriented at rail transit is an important way for solving urban diseases induced by fast urbanization, and it is also the development direction of cities, especially medium- and large-scale cities; rail transit is an important public space of cities, and the integrated development between rail transit and urban spaces is inevitable for urban development; comprehensive traffic hub construction shall persist with demand orientation, take property right design as the core, and take the management system of clear rights and responsibilities as guarantee; multi-function community, green travel, intensive land use and diversified spatial forms embody the connotations of green ecological urban area and smart city.

As the undertaker of this activity, UCD has hammered at the design and research of urban rail transit for long term, and boosted the harmonious concordance and synergetic development between rail transit and cities actively.
