Main works of the PPP bridge project completed at Waihuan North Road in Anqing

At 7:18 on the morning of April 14, the precise and steady loading of the last boxgirder at the pier of the Changfenggang Bridge marked the 12 main works of the bridge along the Waihuan North Road were completed on schedule. It also marked another periodical success after the completion of the lower structure at the end of the 2015 and the completion of the subgrade earthwork at the end of March 2016.

Anqing Waihuan North Road project is the first public welfare municipal road PPP project in China. The project is located at the northeast part of Anqing. It is the trunk road of the city with a total length of 14.93 kilometers and a total investment of 1.976 billion yuan. The project has 12 bridges including seven aqueducts and five viaducts, with a total length accounting for 28.7 per cent of the total constructed road. The construction of the bridge is the difficult part of the project and the key part of the construction. The longest bridge, the Shitanghu No. 1 Bridge, is 877 meters long. The project started on June 6, 2015. It took three months to do the relocation and construct a sidewalk. The overall construction was officially started in September. After overcoming unimaginable difficulties, the constructors created a miracle in process, quality and safety in a short period of seven months and completed the task of 12 bridges, 43 culverts and the most part of the subgrade. During the period, 1,320 bridge foundations and 948 piers were built. A total of 1,812 pre-fabricated box girders were produced and erected, 76 pre-fabricated T-shaped beams were produced and erected, and 72 cast-in-place box girders (double width) were produced.

Through scientific organization, strict control of duration and reasonable allocation of resources, the constructors of the Anqing Waihuan North Road optimized the choice of construction teams, allocation of managerial staff and equipment while taking considerations of the on-site project procedure. It adopted the way of countdown period, worked out clear duration plans and implemented meticulous duration management. The safety engineering department took charge of the daily plan inspection, weekly report and combing and monthly dispatching and summary to ensure the completion of the project. The constructors are targeting their next goal: to make sure the project be open to traffic as planned and present a satisfactory answer to the government and people of Anqing.
