Shanghai Metro Line 13 officially opens to traffic
On Dec. 19, 2015, after a brief yet grand ceremony at the hall of the Hanzhong Station, the section from Changshou Road Station to Expo Avenue Station of Shanghai Metro Line 13 was officially put into operation, with Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group as the general contractor and engineering unit designer, marking the fourth operational section of Metro Line 13 in five years.
Shanghai Metro Line 13 is one of the important trunk lines in Shanghai Metro network. As a line traversing from northwest to southeast of Shanghai, it passes the core urban area of the city, strengthening its radiation function from downtown area to the outskirts. The construction of Metro Line 13 promotes the formation and improvement of Shanghai Metro network, playing an important role in giving full rein to the overall effect of the network. Shanghai Metro Line 13 is constructed in three phases. Phase one is from Jinyun Road Station to West Nanjing RoadStation, with a total length of 16.468 kilometers and 14 underground stations. The section has been operational in two stages by the end of 2014; Phase Two is from West Nanjing Road Station to Central Huaxia Road Station, with a total length of 17.108 kilometers and 14 underground stations; Phase Three is from Central Huaxia Road Station to Zhangjiang Road Station, with a total length of 5.254 kilometers and 3 underground stations. The newly operational section starts from Changshou Road Station to Expo Avenue Station with a total length of 9.85 kilometers and 9 underground stations. It has one underground main transformer sub-station at Changqing Road and a linking line with Metro Line 7. The control center and depot are the facilities constructed during Phase One. By now, Shanghai Metro Line 13 has an accumulated operational length of 21.907 kilometers and 19 stations (among which, seven are transfer stations with other operating lines).
