The Northern Section of Qingdao Metro Line 3 officially operational

Qingdao Metro Line 3, which carries the dream of people in Qingdao, was officially open to traffic on Dec. 16, 2015. At 11 a.m., the first train left the Qingdao North Station, marking the official operation of the northern section of Metro Line 3.

The opening ceremony was held at Qingdao North Station. Xu Zhenxi, deputy mayor of Qingdao, and leaders from related government departments and Qingdao Metro Corporation attended the ceremony. As the general contractor of the design for Line 3, Yu Songwei, director of Beijing Rail and Transit Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., Hua Fucai, deputy director of the institute and Wang Kaijian, deputy director of the Qingdao sub-institute, were invited to the ceremony. Liang Guangshen, a senior expert participated in the early stage of the design, was also invited.

As the first metro line in Qingdao and even in Shandong province, the official operation of the northern section of Qingdao Metro Line 3 is a milestone in the history of urban construction of Qingdao, marking the city’s entering the era of metro. It is of great significance for enhancing city functions, saving and making use of urban space, easing urban traffic jams and solving difficulties in transportation for local people. As an earliet designer of the Qingdao Metro, Beijing UCD will continue to support the construction of Qingdao Metro as in the past and complete the design task in a quality and effective way and contribute to the construction of Qingdao Metro!
