65th Anniversary of the Founding of UCD

Strenuous efforts made in sixty-five years and pursuit of dreams in the new era. In 1958, Beijing Metro Design Department, predecessor of UCD, came into being. As the designer and builder of Beijing Metro Line 1, first of its kind in New China, UCD has carried forward its cause from generation to generation and composed a significant chapter of exploring ways and leading the ways forward, writing inspiring histories of exploration, entrepreneurship and struggle worth bearing in mind and scoring significant achievements across the board, and is making big strides toward the new journey.

On the morning of September 1st, UCD convened a rally to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of UCD, reviewing in retrospect the glorious history of hard struggle and looking forward to the good prospects of the future development.
Pei Hongwei, general manager of BUCG and board chairperson of UCD, UCD’s leading members in Beijing, retired leaders and comrades attended the rally. The main leaders and employee representatives of various units were also present at the rally, and employees of various units and units out of Beijing watched the rally via video link.

The rally was presided over by UCD’s Party chief Li Guoqing. Before the celebration rally, the participants watched the video of UCD’s history of 65 years.

Pei Hongwei extended warm congratulations on the 65th anniversary of UCD’s establishment, paid lofty tribute to the leaders and comrades who have made contributions to UCD’s development and conveyed sincere greetings to all employees of UCD!
Pei Hongwei pointed out that UCD’s history of development has been a history of strenuous efforts and hard struggle and a history of struggle in keeping forging ahead in the reform and renovation. From 1958 to 2023, UCD has gone through an extraordinary glorious course in pioneering a military undertaking and in turning from an institution to an enterprise. Over 65 years, UCD has conscientiously shouldered the sacred mission of developing the rail transit in China, taken the initiative in integrating and serving the overall situation of the causes of the Party and the country, placed the development of itself in the thinking and planning of the national overall strategic situations, risen with force and spirit in opportunities and challenges, kept forging ahead in the reform and development, and created achievements living up to the times, making due contributions for UCD to become a 100-billion-Yuan integrated architectural enterprise group with nine major business sectors.
Pei Hongwei stressed that currently high-quality development has become the primary task in building China into a socialist modern country in all respects. With the flourishing rise of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the rail transit industry has been going through in-depth readjustment and significant transformation, getting the transformation and upgrading off to a start. As an important integral part of BUCG’s business, UCD shoulders the significant mission, significant responsibility and ardent expectations of BUCG’s high-quality development. After the entry of the new development period, UCD should firmly grasp the development situations of China’s rail transit industry in the new era, accelerate the release of the coordinated development potentials in the whole industry chain, and expedited the upgrading of the development levels. UCD should push ahead high-quality development in all respects, constantly improve its own levels and tamp the foundation of development. UCD should tackle difficulties in development with greater wisdom and courage, strive to construct the new pattern of development, constantly escalate the status of the industry and put forth effort to forge the brand paradigm of the industry.

Wang Hanjun affectionately reviewed in retrospect the history of the development of UCD. UCD has come into being, developed and prospered jointly with China’s urban rail transit industry. Through 65 years of hard work, UCD has scored development achievements in all respects, forged its industrial status of turning from the initiator of China’s urban rail transit into a leader, opened a new way of constantly widening its horizontal business development, constantly expanding its longitudinal industry chain and constantly enlarging its overall scale, established a set of distinctive and vigorous modern enterprise governance mechanisms, and forged an industrially famous and nationally influential business brand. Under the leadership of BUCG, the comprehensive strength, competition abilities, innovation abilities and anti-risk abilities of the present UCD have enhanced remarkably and are growing and marching forward courageously in hard struggle.
Wang Hanjun pointed out that to write a new history is the best salute to history and to create a better future is the best grasp of the future. In the new journey, we have drawn on the wisdom from we have experienced to increase strength to march forward continuously and to create a better future in the new journey. In face of the future, UCD should become a leader in innovation and development, continue to strengthen its design and consultancy and improve its general project contracting, actively expand its new business, extend and deepen its industry chain, and accelerate the release of its enterprise scale effect. UCD will use new trains of thought to seek new ways out, open up new competition raceways, cultivate specialized companies, propel itself to a higher platform of development, construct a new pattern of development and expand a new space for development. UCD will continue to maintain its pioneering spirit, momentum of entrepreneurship and style of hard work to hold higher and brighten the“Gold Sign”of UCD and make constant progress to create new achievements.

The handover of UCD Journal for continuation was conducted at the rally. The 1958-2008 editions of UCD Journal fully record UCD’s 50-year history of development, and the handover for continuation will write a new chapter of UCD development in inheritance.
The plate unveiling ceremony for the “Master Workshop” was inaugurated for those national engineering surveying and design masters, such as Yang Xiuren, Yu Songwei and Ma Haizhi.
At the rally, retired leader Wang Xinjie and three employee representatives made speeches, telling about the courses of their hard struggle in abreast with the enterprise at their ordinary posts. The 2023 commemorative medals were also issued to the employee representatives who have worked for 5 years, 10 years and 20 years.

As one of the celebrations, the theme exhibition for the 65th anniversary of UCD’s establishment took place on the same day, demonstrating UCD’s development achievements over 65 years through pictures, literature and videos.

Let’s pay tribute to history and march toward the future. In the new journey, let us join hands to strive forward and march toward the building of a first-class enterprise and new glories with determination and endeavor.
